This is a lantern I made using the firm slab method. I put leaves and a tree on it because I absolutely love nature and truly feel that it is under appreciated. I had to learn how to pinch little coils in the corners of the walls in order to make sure it stayed together. Doing this with the lid was much harder than the base. I had to use very straight lines when cutting out my shapes in order to get it in the perfect form with adequate space. I chose to put the design (leaves) on there in attempts to add more texture to the lantern. The contrast between the colors really add emphasis to the leaves and make them pop out. The leaf patterns are placed so that they balance each other, but also show movement with all of the leaves going different directions. I had to cut my lid down in order to make it proportional to the base. Everything came together in complete harmony and I couldn't be more satisfied. My lantern gives me happiness because I am so beyond satisfied with how it turned out. The over all mood of the lantern makes me think of nature, which is my happy place. Now when it's raining and I'm stuck indoors I can have my happy place here with me. The turquoise is the blue sky, the candle light is the sun, and the leaves on the lantern are the nature. I'll never be sad again.
