This is a turtle. I made it starting out with a pinch pot, then adding the head, legs, and tail. I then carved hexagons into the back to give it the design of a turtle shell. I used value to create the weight and thickness. I had to visualize the shape I wanted and form the clay to make it into what I wanted. There is the colors of green, black, and tan/clear on the project. The turtles belly has depth in order to allow me to use it as a dish. Carving the shell also gave it the texture of a turtle shell. All of the art elements used allowed the final project to come out balanced. I didn't quite get the contrast of colors I was hoping for, but I'm still content. The pattern on the shell really adds emphasis to the turtle. All of the pieces came together in harmony creating an artwork that I'm overall satisfied with. I think I did pretty well for my first ever ceramics project. I love my turtle, Shelly. My turtle makes me really happy because it's adorable and I love turtles. It came out exactly how I wanted.
