This is another small cup that I threw on the wheel and then pulled a handle for. Before footing the cup I pulled the handle by essentially giving a strip of clay a hand job. I suck at making handles. I literally had to make so many before actually successfully getting it on my cup. The space within the cup forms a very small tea cup. The handle and the cup are very well proportioned. This cup makes me feel childish because I want to stick my pinky high in the air when holding it. It reminds me of playing tea and dressing up as a little girl.
This is a small coffee and/or tea cup that I threw on the wheel. Before footing the cup I pulled the handle by essentially giving a strip of clay a hand job. I suck at making handles. I literally had to make so many before actually successfully getting it on my cup. The shape of the cup makes a sort of pyramid form. The white glaze contrasts with the natural color of the bisqued clay so well that they unite in a calming harmony. This leaves me calm and soothed, ready to take a nap.
This is a vase I made on the wheel that looks like a little honey pot. I had to learn how to choke on the wheel, which for some reason was extremely difficult for me to master. The shape of the vase leads the viewers eye down and shows the glaze adding a drip texture at the bottom. This for some reason brings a very strong sense of nostalgia to the air. I feel very attached to this vase and I don't know why.
This is yet another bowl that I made, completely unintentionally when trying to make something else because I'm super awesome and rock at ceramics!!!!!!!!!! (insert napkin to wipe off the sarcasm dripping from that statement). I learned how to make a base for this project. Something that is extremely easy and should always be done, however wasn't getting done until now. From this project forward I never once again forgot to make my base. I have to make a perpendicular geometric angle with my hands to apply force with in order to center the clay and get the desired circle shape and then cylinder form. Increasing the space within the clay opened the clay up, beginning the formation of a bowl. You being balanced and having precise movements is key in your project being balanced and coming together in harmony. This bowl is making very sleepy and hungry all at once. Sleepy because of the dark cloud night sky blue color of it. Hungry because I want to put food in it and eat right now.
This is another bowl I made on the wheel. This bowl went missing for so long and then it came back to me (Hooray!). Being balanced physically and mentally plays a huge part in my success in ceramics. At least that is what I am going to continue to tell myself because I refuse to admit that I suck at ceramics. This bowl reminds me of camping and getting away from everything and just getting back to nature. Just as the blues and greens move together to unite and harmonize, so does the mind, body, and soul with nature.
This is a bowl that I threw on the wheel. I had to learn how to pull up slowly while maintaining a consistent pressure on the project in order for a bowl to form. I had many failed attempts before successfully doing so. So much clay ripped... The colors of this bowl make me feel dark and gloomy, but in a peaceful way. As if you've come to terms with it so you're comfortable. "...the gentle indifference of the world" -Mearsault
This is a small cylinder I threw on the wheel. I had to learn how to keep my project centered even after letting go. I would get it centered then would knock it off center every time I went to take my hands away. I had to slow down and become one with the clay. You really CAN'T rush art. I used a dark green color glaze for the cacti and a dark blue glaze for the flowers on them. A clear glaze was used on the entire project. I had to form the clay so that there wouldn't be too much space in the cylinder. I did a cacti pattern on this because I love cacti and it makes me sad that I only have one real one. This project makes me happy because it reminds me that I can always get more plant babies (cacti) in the future. It also reminds me of the dessert because of the light tan color (representing the sand) and the cacti.
This is a Frankenpot made by Ingrid and I. I had to pull up correctly in order to put my part in (i did the middle piece). I had about four failed attempts before succeeding. This project represents unity because it is all one color. This pot reminds me of deep blue and green colors of the ocean. With this comes a sense of discovery and adventure. |
